From sunny getaways to family gatherings, you’ve probably got lots on your to-do list this summer. But the season is not only the perfect time to enjoy blissful days in the sun, it’s also when you should be getting your carpets back to their best.
Why summer is the best time for carpet cleaning
After a winter full of dark nights, dreary weather and dirty boots, your carpet will no doubt have seen its fair share of stains and spills. Not to mention the occasional pet mess from your furry friends.
However, it’s not just winter that will have taken its toll on your carpets, your floors will also see a lot of traffic over the summer months.
Aside from the weather being on its best and brightest behaviour, there are so many fun activities for your family to do indoors and outdoors at this time of year. All this coming and going around your home will leave your carpets and rugs worse for wear.
So, if you’re looking to banish any dirt, dust or allergens – and impress your house guests – it’s important to keep on top of your cleaning routine.
What’s more, seasonal allergies are rife during summer as the pollen is so high. Cleaning your carpets will not only leave them spotless, it will also help to reduce the triggers of allergies and relieve you of any symptoms. You can learn more about steam cleaning and allergy season here.

How to prepare
There are a few things you’ll want to do before you get started, this way you’ll have an easier job when it comes to tackling your carpets.
- Move your furniture out of the way, as this will make it quicker and easier to access the carpet with your steam cleaner.
- Use a traditional vacuum to remove the top layer of dust, dirt, and crumbs so that the steam cleaner can focus on deeper stains and grime.
- If there are any particularly tough stains, you may want to treat these first using a stain remover and leave for a few minutes. You can wait for the remnants to be picked up by the steam cleaner or simply dab with a cloth.
Step 1 – Fill the steam cleaner with water
Steam cleaners use water vapour to thoroughly clean and sanitise surfaces – and the H2O Steam Mops range is no different. To use the H2O HD Advanced Steam Mop, you’ll need to pour clean water into its heating mechanism. You can add detergent, however the H2O HD Advanced Steam Mop will kill 99% of bacteria without any chemicals, due to the power of the steam.
Step 2 – Steam clean the carpet
Once you’ve attached the carpet glider to the steam cleaner, it’s time to put your steam cleaner to work. It’s a good idea to start in the corner of the room, furthest away from the door. This will make it easy to move your carpet steam cleaner to the next room.
You should also clean in straight lines, so you don’t miss any spots. The lightweight and agile H2O HD Advanced Steam Mop makes this so simple. Plus, its triangular shape will allow you to clean in tight corners.
It’s also important not to rush when using a steam cleaner. The H2O HD Advanced Steam Mop will work slower than traditional vacuums, but you’re guaranteed to achieve better results.
Step 3 – Don’t forget aftercare
When you’ve finished thoroughly cleaning the whole carpet – and you’re happy with your results – you’ll need to allow the surface to dry. It’s recommended to leave your carpet for 6-8 hours in order to dry properly.
